5 Tips For Taking Care of Hiking Trails

It’s no secret that hiking has become a pretty big part of our Great Big Adventure. We’re always scoping out what’s nearby, and find that you can see some of the most beautiful views at the end of the trail. ?

So it’s of utmost importance to us that we do our part to keep nature wild, and show our trails some love! That’s why we’re stoked to partner with Keep Nature Wild for another season. As a Wild Keeper Ambassador, it’s our duty to get outside and pick up trash, follow outdoor ethics, be kind to others, and explore responsibly. Oh! And pass on a sweet $10 discount off of any of their gear to you guys. Click here!

Before you head outdoors, please consider the following tips:

  • Bring a trash bag along on all of your hikes and pick up any trash you see along the way. Leave the trail better than you found it!
  • Pack it in, pack it out! One person’s food waste left to biodegrade is a significant eyesore for the next person coming up the trail, not to mention what’s at stake for the natural environment. This is also the case for diapers, toilet paper and wet wipes. We recommend using a double bag system for food and other waste!
  • Stay on the designated trail. It’s there for a reason! Not only could going off trail be hazardous for your safety, but you could also damage plant life and/or wildlife habitats.
  • Let wildlife be wild — admire, but don’t approach. Take photos, but remember that IG post isn’t worth your safety.
  • Know before you go. Consider trail length, weather elements, how much water you’ll need, pack snacks, etc. Be sure to tell someone where you’ll be hiking! There’s nothing worse than being unprepared on the trail.
