As we look to continue traveling full-time (and the boys keep growing), we are ready to transition out of the van and into something a bit bigger that could also give us more flexibility with any season. So naturally, we decided to upgrade to a travel trailer! Other considerations included being under 30ft, built using high quality materials, having a dedicated space for the kids to sleep, and the ability to retrofit for off-grid camping.
We had looked at lots of travel trailers online, but we kept going back to the Airstream models. The sleek, modern design, coupled with the incredible quality and attention to detail, had us sold. We were prepared to drive across the Western U.S. to find our future home if need be, so we were stoked when we found the exact model we wanted — in perfect condition — only an hour and a half away! ??
Our new home is a 2017 Airstream Flying Cloud 28’ RB. It’s the exact model we were hoping for, and it was love at first sight! ? Steven and I have our own bedroom with a queen in the back, and there is a lounge area in the front as well as a dinette in the middle where the kids will sleep. While the trailer is beautiful, we will make some aesthetic upgrades to make it feel like home during our summer here in Bridgeport, Calif. ???
What about the van? ? For now, we’re holding onto the Beast to explore and camp easily in the Eastern Sierras this summer. Then in early Fall, we’ll put her up for sale. ? Not gonna lie, it’s gonna be hard! (Maybe we should rent her out instead?) Regardless, we’ll buy a 3/4-ton truck to tow our new trailer as the van doesn’t have enough towing capacity.
What do you think of our new home? Should I do a video tour to show you around?? ?
