After staying at the Peace Hostel in La Paz for a couple of days, we were missing our van buddies, who had been camping on the beach. When they came back into town, we met up at Campestre Maranatha, an RV resort on the outskirts of La Paz.
The Campground
Hands down, we all agreed that this was one of the nicest campgrounds in all of Baja! It’s easy to see as you drive in. Primarily used as a Christian campground and the base for Maranatha Ministries, the property is used by local churches, schools, and families for many different activities. It’s HUGE! The entire campground is seven acres, with plenty of spots for RV hookups and dry camping. The grounds are meticulously maintained, which is impressive given its size.
The entire time we were at Campestre Maranatha, we joked that it really felt like a Mexican resort for campers! I only wish I would have taken more photos of the property… but it was so relaxing, I just indulged instead!
Amenities
There are plenty of campsites available at Campestre Maranatha. As I mentioned before, there are options for dry camping or RV hookups, and while we didn’t see any tents, I’m sure that the property would accommodate tent campers too.
The campground has a large pool onsite, which was a big hit for the kids! My only gripe — and this is minor — is that there wasn’t any lounge chairs to lay on by the pool. How’s a girl gonna get her tan on?! Anyhow… there’s also a playground where all of the kiddos would congregate. Levi and Harvey literally ran around with a gang of kids all day long!
Now for the exciting stuff that the adults like — laundry services! On site! This is a big perk. Towards the back of the property, there is a coin-operated laundry room that’s super convenient for travelers.
If you’ve been reading along most of our Baja campground reviews, you know that hot and clean showers are hard to come by. Not here. These are the cleanest restrooms in all of Baja, and the best showers too. We never had any issues getting hot water, which is a van lifer’s dream. ?
One other perk — there’s a cafe towards the front of Campestre Maranatha. This is where the WiFi worked best (it was sparce everywhere else) AND you could enjoy the best chilaquiles! There’s not much that makes me happier than having a quiet place to enjoy a delicious Mexican breakfast and a latte.
I should note that on our last day, the manager informed us that a large group was coming in the following day. She gave us the option to move to another area of the campgrounds, but we were ready to move on to the next Baja adventure. Based on some of the reviews we had read, areas like the pool are closed off when large groups come in.
Cost
The cost to stay at Campestre Maranatha ran us $500 pesos per night, or about $25 U.S. dollars. For the services alone, this felt like a great deal! We would definitely stay here again. ?
