If you’ve been following our journey for any time at all, you know that we prefer to camp off-grid — and we aren’t the only ones! Boondocking has exploded in popularity over the past few years due in part to a large increase in the total number of RVers on the road, and the increasing number of resources available to help individuals identify great boondocking locations.
Campground Review: Campestre Maranatha in La Paz, Baja California Sur
Hands down, we all agreed that this was one of the nicest campgrounds in all of Baja! It's easy to see as you drive in. Primarily used as a Christian campground and the base for Maranatha Ministries, the property is used by local churches, schools, and families for many different activities. It's HUGE! The entire campground is seven acres, with plenty of spots for RV hookups and dry camping. The grounds are meticulously maintained, which is impressive given its size.
It’s Our 1-Year Nomadiversary!
It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a whole year of our Great Big Adventure! ?? Not so long ago, Steven was working every evening and weekend to convert our 12-passenger Sprinter van into a home on wheels. I quit my job, and became focused on selling and donating a majority of our belongings while our house was on the market. The day we left our hometown, we had people coming to pick up our beds! Our home sold a week after we hit the road...
Living It Up in La Paz, Baja California Sur
After our remote adventure in Agua Verde, we packed things up and began the five hour trek south to La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur. Based on some of our early reading about Baja, both Steven and I were excited to explore this city and see all that it had to offer.
Van Life Gear Review: Venture Wipes
Here’s a truth bomb for ya... we take showers 1-2 a week! ? Yeah, yeah. Save the judgement until you decided to go live and travel in a van! ? While it’s not ideal for everyone, it’s the trade-off we make in order to seek out the most beautiful places to camp off-grid. Fortunately for us, we recently partnered with Venture Wipes to put their product to the test!
Agua Verde is the Perfect Destination for Adventure Seekers
The road to Agua Verde... how can I sufficiently explain this wild adventure?! If you're itching to disconnect and you've got the right vehicle, you'll for sure want to check out Baja’s not-so-best kept secret: a pristine, hard-to-reach beach with bright green water.
What You Need to Know About Baja’s Bahiá de Los Ángeles
If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxed vibe where you can disconnect and enjoy the picturesque views, then Bahiá de Los Ángeles is for you.
Campground Review: Glamping Ruta de Arte y Vino in Valle de Guadalupe, Baja Mexico
There are a few well-known areas to camp within Valle de Guadalupe, and Glamping de Arte y Vino is one of these. We came into the area in the late afternoon after running errands in Ensenada, so we immediately headed for a campsite. Glamping de Arte y Vino was the closest to us and sounded promising.
Campground Review: La Jolla Beach Camp in Ensenada, Mexico
Our third campground in Ensenada came at the recommendation of some fellow van lifers: La Jolla Beach Camp. It was on the southern end of Ensenada, close to La Bufadora, the second largest marine geyser in the world. Near the campground, the low tide revealed an opportunity to dig up a natural hot springs – right there on the beach! It sounded perfect.
Campground Review: Playa Saldamando in Baja California
Camping in Baja, Mexico is certainly a first for us, but luckily there are many resources on where to stay in the area. The best by far is the Traveler's Guide to Camping Mexico's Baja by Church & Church. The book gives you a rundown on everything you need to know about each region, as well as many recommended campgrounds and RV parks throughout Baja California. Our plan was to find a location near Ensenada for our first stay. As we drove along Hwy 1, we marveled at the most gorgeous scenic views. Fortunately for us, these panoramic views are home to Playa Saldamando, a primitive campground that faces the…
