Towards the end of our second week in Baja California, Mexico, we were ready to leave the Pacific side and see what the Sea of Cortez had to offer. After a three-hour drive, our first destination on the Eastern side of Baja was San Felipe.

Explore Valle de Guadalupe, Baja’s Emerging Wine Region
After exploring Ensenada, our next stop was to head inland and check out Valle de Guadalupe, Baja’s emerging wine region. It’s safe to say we fell in love! Our first few days along La Ruta del Vino was incredible. Not only was it beautiful, the wine was fantastic and the food was absolutely incredible! The locals are very kind, and their hospitality rivals that of their Napa counterparts. Vinepair recently named Valle de Guadalupe one of the best wine destinations to visit. While we only spent two full days here, I’m confident that our recommendations will not disappoint.
Campground Review: Glamping Ruta de Arte y Vino in Valle de Guadalupe, Baja Mexico
There are a few well-known areas to camp within Valle de Guadalupe, and Glamping de Arte y Vino is one of these. We came into the area in the late afternoon after running errands in Ensenada, so we immediately headed for a campsite. Glamping de Arte y Vino was the closest to us and sounded promising.
Taste of Baja: The Best Street Food in Ensenada
Let’s get real – besides the gorgeous views and incredible culture, the thing we were looking forward to the most in Baja California was the food. Tacos, ceviche, cervesa... You name it, we wanted to try it. So of course, a lot of our Baja “research” centered on the best places to eat. And what better place to start than in Ensenada. Here were our favorite places to devour delicious food!
What We Learned in Our First Week of Navigating Baja California, Mexico
Baja California, Mexico! What a place to be. Our first week in Baja was concentrated in the port city of Ensenada, about two hours south of the San Diego/Tijuana border. Since it was our first time driving through, we wanted to spend some time getting acquainted with the area, local resources and navigating our way around town. Well, that and eating all the tacos! ?
Campground Review: Clam Beach RV Resort in Baja California
One of the nice things about Baja is the amount of campgrounds available! As it was still our first week in Mexico, the options seemed plentiful – yet somewhat overwhelming. While we consulted our Churches guidebook quite a bit, it was still hard to tell as most of the sites offered similar amenities. Our first campsite, Playa Saldamando, had breathtaking views, but unfortunately cold showers weren’t going to cut it at $17/night. On our third day in Baja, we decided to head north a bit and try out the campground where The Van Life app meet up would take place that weekend: Clam Beach RV Resort. The Campground Clam Beach…
Campground Review: Playa Saldamando in Baja California
Camping in Baja, Mexico is certainly a first for us, but luckily there are many resources on where to stay in the area. The best by far is the Traveler's Guide to Camping Mexico's Baja by Church & Church. The book gives you a rundown on everything you need to know about each region, as well as many recommended campgrounds and RV parks throughout Baja California. Our plan was to find a location near Ensenada for our first stay. As we drove along Hwy 1, we marveled at the most gorgeous scenic views. Fortunately for us, these panoramic views are home to Playa Saldamando, a primitive campground that faces the…
We’re Heading to Baja!
Yep, you read that right. As of right now, we’re in our van making our way across the border to Baja California, Mexico! ??? Steven and I started talking about our dream destinations late last Fall, and Baja kept creeping up to the top of our list. We thought, How wild would it be if we spent a couple months exploring this beautiful peninsula of Mexico? Shortly after making the big decision to go for it in the New Year, the founders of The Van Life app announced that they were kicking off a Baja to Alaska Tour at the end of January through July. We couldn’t believe the timing!…
