Cover New Ground with OutdoorMaster’s Electric Skateboard

As a van family, we’ve always considered getting an eBike or OneWheel to aid in one of us getting to another location without having to move the van. However, the price and size of these always prohibited us from moving forward on the purchase. Recently, our friends at OutdoorMaster came out with an electric skateboard that sounded promising. So when they asked if we wanted to test one out, we were all for it!

OutdoorMaster Booster electric skateboard review

I’ll be honest — we didn’t really think we were in the market for an electric skateboard. Neither Steven or I are skateboarders, and I didn’t even know that this product existed! I was also really hesitant to try one that had a motor. What if I get hurt? Let’s just say that I went into this product review with a lot of caution. Safety first!

OutdoorMaster offers two different electric skateboards — the Cruiser and the Booster. Given our needs, we figured that the Booster would be our best bet, as it can go a longer distance between the two. Immediately upon opening the package, we could tell that this skateboard is heavy duty. We plugged in the Booster as well as the remote control before taking it for a test spin. Both charged incredibly fast!

Steven took the Booster for a ride first. As he took off, I shouted to be safe and watched with anxiousness as he rode around the campground we are staying in. It wasn’t long before he looked pretty comfortable with the ride, and soon enough, it was my turn.

I started off on the Booster extremely slow. There are four speed modes on the remote control, and I wasn’t about to try it beyond numero uno. Even as I get more comfortable on the skateboard, I’m still cautious of speed. Every time I hop on the board, I go a little faster with each ride. However, I will say that you don’t need to crank it up high to have a fun time!

The Booster boasts an impressive 27 mile-range, and the two 450W hub motors are capable of propelling the skateboard up to 28mph. We haven’t had the occasion or desire to crank it up to full speed, primarily out of safety concerns, but it certainly feels every bit as capable as its top speed implies. If you’re thinking about getting an electric skateboard, please be aware of safety precautions. Wear a helmet! It’s not a bad idea to pick up some elbow and knee pads, although it’s certainly not required for a good time.

The ride is firm and responsive and after some practice feels quite stable and comfortable. The board itself is rugged and was quite capable of handling all the abuse we threw at it. The tires handled varying terrain without issue and the board seemed largely unbothered by debris and uneven pavement. The simple integrated carrying handle makes toting the board easy and convenient.

The handheld remote control is intuitive and the thumb-controlled accelerator feels precise — which makes for smooth takeoffs and controlled braking. The LED display provides all the necessary information like battery level, speed mode, current speed, single ride mileage, and total mileage. It also allows you to easily toggle between forward and backwards, which can be helpful for beginners.

On my first ride, I felt a bit like an avatar in my very own video game. It was exhilarating, but new users should exercise caution when learning to ride. We found it helpful for us to first ride the skateboard without the motor engaged before kicking things up a notch and slowly working our way up the speed modes. Start SLOW, especially if you’re new to skateboarding in general. While we’ve allowed our 6-year-old and 9-year-old to ride the Booster, Steven or I have maintained control of the remote and keep the pace nice and easy.

An electric skateboard can get to wherever you need to be quickly and without carbon emissions. We love that this is a great alternative that’s better for the environment! The Booster is the perfect board to use for fun, travel or your daily commute. I also appreciate that it’s reasonably priced compared to other electric skateboards out there (the Booster sells for $559), as well as other modes of transportation like an eBike ($1,500-$4,000) or OneWheel ($1,050-$2,200).

We highly recommend considering OutdoorMaster’s Booster electric skateboard as a gift for a loved one… or yourself! ? To get 15% off of your purchase, use our discount code ALEXIS at checkout.
