Let’s face it — long drive days call for alllllll the snacks, and we’ve been guilty of making less-than-stellar choices when road-tripping. Thankfully, we decided early on to keep the unhealthy snacks to a minimum. Out of sight, out of mind as the saying goes.
And even though the pantry doesn’t have any temptations anymore, we still wanna snack. Over the past month, we’ve discovered some new favorites, as well as a few staples!
Wilde Chicken Chips
A couple months ago, we received a complimentary package of Wilde Chips. I honestly had never heard of this brand before, but the concept was appealing — chips made from chicken breast? That tasted good? And had 10g of protein per serving? I’ll admit, I was skeptical. Until I popped open that first bag of Chicken & Waffles — the rest was history. I probably should be embarrassed by this, but since trying these, I’ve ordered (and eaten) 21 bags of these addicting chips! While I’m partial to the Chicken & Waffles — sweet and savory — I also really liked the Nashville Hot Chicken and Buffalo Chicken.

RJ’s Licorice
This next sweet snack is so popular among Steven and I that I had to hide the bags and ration to him — otherwise, he’ll eat’em up in one sitting. ? These soft licorice bites are that delicious. We love the Mango flavor, which is made from all natural flavors and colors, without any preservatives. If and when we get to go to the movie theaters again, this is a surefire snack to sneak in! Available on Amazon.
Cauliflower Pretzels with Bitchin’ Sauce
During our travels in Solvang, there was the cutest natural foods store called New Frontiers Natural Marketplace. I love shops like this, where I can find all things gluten-free, dairy-free and egg-free. (Yes, I have to limit all of the good stuff. UGH!) One of the BEST finds here were From the Ground Up Cauliflower Pretzels and Pesto Bitchin’ Sauce. Dip the pretzels in the sauce and tell me it isn’t the best snack you’ve ever had. I dare ya!
Skinny Dipped Almonds
Years ago, I was listening religiously to my favorite podcast, Mind Pump, when the hosts Sal, Adam and Justin started raving about a new product they had tried — chocolate-covered almonds. Mind you, this is a health and fitness podcast, so I was intrigued as to what made these snacks 1) so delicious, and 2) healthy. By definition, anything covered in chocolate can’t be good for you… right?
So I gave it a whirl — and got hooked! The reason this snack is called Skinny Dipped is because the founders dip the almonds in just enough chocolate to satisfy your sweet tooth. There are sooooo many yummy flavors too — Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter, Dark Chocolate Espresso, and my all-time favorite, Lemon Bliss. I personally love the mini packs for easy portion control. One serving has less sugar than an apple and as much protein as an egg!
I’m also stoked that my love of this delicious snack has helped us become ambassadors for the brand! For every purchase made through this link, our family earns a small commission that enables us to travel longer — and keep bringing you this sweet blog content.
Pirate’s Booty Cheese Puffs
Can I buy stock in Pirate’s Booty? Because if so, I’m sure our family alone with drive up the value given how much we’ve purchased over the past six years! This is a staple in our van pantry, for sure. This is easily one of the kids’ favorite snacks, and I don’t ever feel guilty throwing another pack their way since it’s made of high-quality ingredients, without any preservatives, artificial flavors or colors.
Are you on the snack attack too? Now that we’ve shared our go-to road trip snacks, tell us yours in the comments below!

Those snacks sounds great! Especially the skinny dipped! We snack so much in the car, that I keep a paring knife in the glove box and try to buy fruits and veggies that we have to eat before all the other stuff!

Thanks, Karen! That’s such a great idea. We’ve tried to always have bananas and apples on hand for the kiddos. Carrots and hummus too!
