Tri-Tip & Beans: You’ll Love This Hearty Campfire Meal

Let’s be honest — we’re usually creatures of habit when it comes to camping meals. During our last camping trip, we decided to step it up a notch in the food department: Steven made tri-tip and beans! After a long day of hiking and exploring, this camping meal totally hit the spot.

Ingredients:

  • 1 USDA Choice Beef Tri-Tip Loin Roast
  • Seasoning (We use a seasoning from our local meat market that’s made up of garlic salt, paprika and pepper.)
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Bacon
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Onions
  • 1 can of Bush’s Baked Beans (we prefer the maple and cured bacon)

Directions:

  1. Start a campfire. When the flames start to die down, you should have white coals left. Be patient, as this could take up to 45 minutes, and you want the coals to be glowing!
  2. Season the tri-tip liberally (unless you bought it already seasoned).
  3. Toss that bad boy over some wood coals!
  4. Flip ONE time. Don’t be afraid of some charing.
  5. Pre-heat your cast iron skillet over wood coals. (Don’t have a cast iron skillet? It’s a game-changer! We use ours daily — you can buy it here.
  6. Add chopped bacon to the skillet.
  7. Add onions, peppers and whatever else strikes your fancy once the bacon is cooked.
  8. Drain the bacon grease and add the secret ingredient: Bush’s Baked Beans. (Hey, we can’t make everything from scratch!)
  9. Cook beans to desired thickness and slice tri-tip thinly.

We hope you enjoy this campfire meal! What are your favorite camping meals?
